About the event
Bio
Dr Paulina Trevena is a researcher and hypnotherapist. After years working in academia as a
researcher in social sciences and public health, Paulina discovered the world of hypnosis and was
hooked! This led her to train as a hypnotherapist and subsequently quit her academic career to
establish a personal development business called No Woo Woo! Paulina specialises in supporting
people with ADHD and/or aphantasia. She is on a mission to raise awareness of aphantasia in the
hypnosis world and develop best practice in working with people lacking internal imagery.
Talk Description
What is aphantasia and why should we care?
Ever came across that client who just could not be hypnotised or for whom hypnosis had repeatedly
failed? Well, this might just be down to aphantasia!
Aphantasia is the lack of a mind’s eye and other internal senses. However, its impact on people’s
internal experiences is much broader. What is more, many aphantasics are not aware they are
different from anyone else! With visualisation and sensory techniques commonly used in
hypnotherapy, aphantasia can pose an issue for both the client and the hypnotist.
In her talk, Paulina will explain how aphantasia can impact the individual and their ability to
experience given hypnosis techniques. You will learn what aphantasia is exactly, how to recognise it,
and how to best approach aphantasic clients.
